Privacy Policy

Platen collects nothing. No accounts, no analytics, no tracking, no advertising. This page explains what that means in practice.

What Platen collects

Nothing. Platen has no user accounts, no sign-in, and no servers of its own. Your writing is never sent to us, and there is no mechanism by which it could be.

Specifically, Platen contains:

• no analytics or usage tracking
• no crash or diagnostic reporting
• no advertising, and no advertising identifiers
• no third-party software development kits of any kind

Where your writing is stored

Your books, chapters, and notes are stored on your device.

If you have iCloud enabled, Platen also stores them in the private database of your own iCloud account, so they appear on your other Apple devices. That data is held by Apple under your Apple Account and governed by Apple's privacy policy. We have no access to it, cannot read it, and cannot recover it for you.

You can stop this at any time by turning off iCloud for Platen in your device settings.

Files you export

When you export a manuscript as a PDF or a plain text file, that file goes wherever you send it — saved to your device, shared to another app, or attached to an email. Platen plays no part in it after you choose the destination, and keeps no copy.

If you email us

If you write to the support address below, we hold your message and your email address for as long as it takes to answer you and to keep a record of the conversation. That is the only circumstance in which we hold any personal data about you. It is never used for marketing and never passed to anyone else.

Children

Platen is a writing tool suitable for general audiences. It collects no data from anyone, of any age.

Your rights

Because Platen collects nothing, there is no data held about you to access, correct, or delete — with the single exception of any email you have sent to support. Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask for a copy of that correspondence or ask for it to be deleted, and it will be done.

The writing stored in your iCloud account is yours and under your control. To delete it, delete the books in Platen or remove the app's data through your device's iCloud settings.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the revised version will be published on this page with a new date at the top. Platen's approach — collecting nothing — is a design decision rather than a temporary position, so substantive changes are not anticipated.
